  CONTEXT

In the energy industry, operators and EPCs navigate complex procurement processes to purchase simple, low-cost items. Procuring operationally critical equipment quickly while also ensuring quality and internal compliance is a significant challenge in this high-pressure industry.

Our client, an accredited labor and renowned product vendor, sought to create a Custom Online Platform (COP), to service strategic enterprise accounts with a custom experience to comply with procurement requirements and serve each customer’s unique need with custom features - while also providing customer-specific products, services, and pricing.

ACT Solutions & Consulting collaborated with our client to build the guided buying experience for their enterprise customers and ensure a simple and efficient administration for our client to fulfill orders.

  TOOLS

Microsoft Power Platform is a low-code solution platform enabling pro-code developers to develop applications 10x faster and 10x cheaper using fusion development compared to just a few years ago - and getting faster with AI and ACT’s templates and standards.

This custom e-commerce platform was built primarily with Power Pages, providing significant out-of-the-box capabilities while maintaining significant customization, flexibility, and high performance. The considerable infrastructure capabilities drastically reduce the team size and specialists ensuring low development cost and low cost across the full product life cycle.

Dataverse is Azure SQL with an abstraction layer to simplify database development and eliminate the need for a Database Administrator (DBA) to configure and maintain SQL tables allowing rapid development and data model changes while ensuring strong record-level security and data retention.

Power Automate was leveraged to generate PDFs of invoices, track, update, and notify status changes on orders across the fulfillment lifecycle, and reduce the burden on administrators to fulfill orders.

Where Power Pages was used for our client’s customer UI, Power Apps is used by our client for the admin capability allowing rapid development and significant capabilities for customer and order management.

While analytics were built within Power Pages for simple, yet powerful insights for our client’s customers, we developed Power BI dashboards to analyze their internal performance and revenue and purchasing trends informing continuous improvement, inventory, and financial planning decisions.

A critical requirement for the Identity Provider (IdP) was the flexibility to comply with each enterprise’s specific cybersecurity requirements. Using Azure B2C’s custom policies ensured a custom experience including Single Sign On (SSO) for each enterprise while ensuring top-notch security.

As with any modern checkout experience, real-time shipping rates and a seamless credit card purchasing experience are a must. The COP included API integration with FedEx and leveraged the SDK for PayPal to ensure compliance and performance.
